Assignment

From the Portrait 7
A warm family which contains three members living in an old wooden house, parents and a daughter, looks like Malay people in three southern provinces of Thailand or people at northern state of Malaysia. Their house also looks like Malay style which is made from wood and it is located near the river which the water can run and smoothly wave under the building. So everything is completely understood as Thai or Malaysia Malay people which considering their dressing that is the most conspicuous. The husband which is the head of the family named Mustofa, he wears a white cap which is called in Malay “ Kapiah”, and he wears an old blue shirt and a long colorful clothes called “Sarong” in Malay. It is common and suitable dress for him. He looks very nice and friendly that we can notice at his clean, bright face and a nice smile. He has a medium shape which is thin and 170 cm tall. His age is probably about 45 years old but still strong and healthful. He is a fisherman working in the river behind the house. Beside him is his wife named Rokaiah. She wears a common dress, white shirt and brown long Sarong and closes hers head with a piece of white clothes. Hers body is quite fat and unhealthful. She is medium age which is 40 years old now and 160 cm tall. She can not walk and stand so well because she got an accident last two years which was crashed by a careless drunk driver’s car.  But she looks very friendly which a nice bright face and a nice smile. Bothe of them, Mustofa and Rokaiah, have got a daughter named Sofiah, a pretty and beautiful young girl. She has a medium shape which is thin and 155 cm tall. She has brown eyes, black long straight hair, pink lips, beautiful white teeth and bright skin. She is now 18 years old being a high school student class 5. They took this photo to be memorable, after having breakfast in the morning around 7 o’clock while they are sending their daughter to school. Actually the people in the picture are not Malay people from three southern provinces of Thailand or northern state of Malaysia, but it is a family in Kampong Cham, Kampong means province in Cambodia. We might call them “Cambodians Malay” because there are a lot of people in the province communicate in Malay language. Cambodians had a long history and relationship with people in Nusantara , called Malay area or nationality of Malay, in old period for being also Cambodian Malay in their country. This family is a Muslim family because the majority of this province are Malay Cambodians and believe in Islam like our old generation understood and acquired that “ Malayu is Islam and Islam is Malayu”.
